Your Community Emergency Response Team. The Community
Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program educates
people about disaster preparedness for hazards that
may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster
response skills, such as fire safety, light search
and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical
operations. Using the training learned in the classroom
and during exercises, CERT members can assist others
in their neighborhood or workplace following an
event when professional responders are not immediately
available to help. CERT members also are encouraged
to support emergency response agencies by taking
a more active role in emergency preparedness projects
in their community.
About
CERT…
The
Federal Emergency Management Agency using the model
created by the Los Angeles City Fire Department
beganpromoting nationwide implementation ofthe Community
Emergency Response Team (CERT) concept in 1994.
Since then, CERT's have been established in hundreds
of communities in the U.S. Black Jack Fire Protection
District is dedicated to prepare their community
that they serve by providing CERT training. In addition
this training promotes a partnering effort between
our emergency services personnel and our citizens.
If
a disastrous event overwhelms or delays the emergency
services personnel, CERT members can assist others
by applying the basic response and organizational
skills that they learned during training. These skills
can help save and sustain lives following a disaster
until help arrives. CERT skills also apply to daily
emergencies.
CERT
members will have the opportunityto maintain and
refine their skills by participating in exercises
and activities. They can attend supplemental training
that will be hosted through your Fire ProtectionDistrict
periodically. This will keepmembers fresh on skills
learned in the initialtraining and further their
skill base.
